Mallory Cowing

Stylist - Midtown (Central)

When did you start working at Pavo:
August 2023.

My previous jobs:
I was a carhop at Sonic Drive-In throughout high school and worked there for a couple of years after I graduated. Working in the service industry has helped me since I started doing hair. I love to entertain and make people laugh, whether it’s my clients or my co-workers. I have a lot of energy and love to have fun, even if I’m just at work.

My hometown and places I have lived:
I was born in Jacksonville, Florida along with my sister Meredith who is very important to me and is a huge part of who I am! My dad served in the military so I also lived in Virginia Beach! I have lived in Memphis since I was 6 and I definitely feel at home here. I love that Memphis has so many friendly people here.

I decided to become a stylist because:

I am very creative and love working on all the small details that go into making someone’s hair look perfect! I have always been passionate about art but I never really know how to put that into a career. Being a hairstylist has given me so many different ways to express my creativity through creating different looks.

Who is your dream client and why:
My dream client is Billie Eilish. Not only does she show creativity through her music, but a lot of her personality shows in her hair! She is always switching up her hair and doing fun looks. I love clients who are always wanting to change their hair color and do fun looks. It’s important to them to help a client feel confident in themselves.

My professional goal is:
My goal in my hair career is to eventually become a master stylist. When I started my apprenticeship at Pavo I started to learn so much more about what it takes to become a successful hairstylist. It takes a lot of education and experience not just from being behind the chair but learning new things from classes and my coworkers.

What I want every client to know about me:
I am very outgoing and I have a big personality. I am very accepting of others and want my clients to feel safe with me. I am very passionate about many things not just including hair. I am an advocate for human rights, mental health, and the LGBTQIA+ community. I believe that everyone has a purpose on this earth and should feel accepted for who they are.

If you aren’t at the salon, where else can you be found:
I love prioritizing self-care especially since I pour so much of myself in others when I’m at work. Most Saturday nights I’m always getting drinks with my friend at Slider Inn or Railgarten. On Sunday you can find me either deep cleaning or taking a nap! I also have the cutest nephew who lives in Fort Worth, Texas so I’m always taking trips to spend time with him.
